World's youngest MCP Aarifa Karim in critical condition

Aarifa Karim, a Pakistani girl from Faisalabad who became the world’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) in 2004 at the age of nine, is in a critical condition in a hospital in Lahore, Express News reported on Thursday.

Karim’s father told Express News that she had an epileptic attack on December 22 which damaged her heart and her brain.

Doctors said that she is on a ventilator and they might have to unplug her machines as there are hardly any chances of saving her, but they cannot take any decision against the family’s will.

After the news of Karim’s condition emerged, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of it and announced providing economic support to the family, but Karim’s family refused to take the money.

Karim had also earned the Fatima Jinnah gold medal and Salam Pakistan Youth Award in 2005 over her achievement, and was also invited to the Microsoft Headquarters in the US by Bill Gates for being the World’s youngest MCP.

Karim earned her first flight certificate by flying a plane at a flying club in Dubai at the age of 10, and was invited by Microsoft in 2006 to be a key-note speaker at the Tech-Ed Developers Conference, where she was the only Pakistani among over 5,000 developers.

She is currently 16 years old and is studying at Lahore Grammar School Paragon Campus.

Isn't there any helicopter or private plane to take this young talented girl to Dubai or England?

Microsoft's youngest Certified Professional shows signs of life

LAHORE:
Arifa Karim Randhawa, the child tech prodigy in critical condition, has shown some sign of life after she moved some of her fingers and her brain showed some activity, her Father Lt Col (Retd) Amjad Karim Randhawa told The Express Tribune on Friday.

Karim, who is still on life support, is still in a critical state and is being tended to the doctors, who had earlier lost hope of the child’s recovery.

Her father said that the family has received a flood of calls from all over the world inquiring after her health and praying for her recovery.

On December 22, Aarifa was admitted to Lahore’s CMH hospital after suffering cardiac arrest. On Thursday, doctors said there was no hope for her survival, and that her life support could be switched off ‘at any time’.

However, after this latest development, doctors and experts at Lahore’s Mayo hospital are working to save Arifa.

When Aarifa, now 16, was given the title of a Microsoft professional as a young child, she visited the company’s headquarters in the US. When she met Bill Gates himself, she had two questions: Why weren’t children allowed to work for Microsoft, and why such few women worked for the organisation.

I was shocked to see Arfa in such critical situation. I never believed in asking others to pray for someone's health or prosperity but few days back my hostel mate's mother got seriously ill and she was admitted in hospital. The girl asked all other girls to pray for her mother and she arranged "Quran Khawani" in hostel and next day i was amazed to listen that her mother started showing signs of life. This incident strengthened my faith in this phenomenon that others can also pray for us and it works. So, i request all of you to please pray for Arfa. This girl is asset of PAkistan, she is the hope for bright future of PAkistan. She needs our prayers and we must pray for her.

Bill Gates contacts Aarifa's father for treatment

SLAMABAD: Chairman of Microsoft, billionaire Bill Gates has contacted the parents of the world's youngest Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) Aarifa Karim for her treatment, a private news channel reported.

According Aarifa's father Amjab Karim Randhawa, Bill Gates telephoned him and expressed his desire about Aarifa's treatment in the US.

Gates has also directed his doctors to ensure every measure for the treatment of the young Microsoft professional.

Gates' doctors contacted Aarifa's Pakistani doctors and received details about the illness through the internet.

Meanwhile, Pakistani doctors are of the view that Aarifa is on the ventilator, therefore it will be hard to shift her to any other hospital.

The 16-year old Aarifa suffered anepileptic attack on December 22 in 2011, which affected her brain and heart causing her to slip into a coma. She has been on a ventilator since then.
