OSLO: The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), which is overseeing the destruction of Syria's chemicals weapon arsenal, won the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday.

Set up in 1997 to eliminate all chemicals weapons worldwide, its mission gained critical importance this year after a sarin gas strike in the suburbs of Damascus killed more than 1,400 people in August.

Washington blamed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for the attack, a charge he denied, instead blaming rebels.

Facing the threat of a US military strike, eventually he agreed to destroy Syria's sizeable chemical weapons programme and allow in OPCW inspectors.

The $1.25 million prize was announced at 0900 GMT and was presented in Oslo on Dec. 10, the anniversary of the death of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel, who founded the awards in his 1895 will.

The OPCW, based in the Hague in the Netherlands, has about 500 staff and an annual budget of under $100 million.

Norwegian public broadcaster NRK which has a strong track record reporting winners had predicted the result prior to the official announcement.

Last year NRK had announced that the EU would win an hour before the official statement.

The OPCW, which has 189 member states, said Syria was cooperating and it could eliminate its chemical weapons by mid-2014, provided they received support from all sides in its civil war.

Chemical weapons experts believe Syria has roughly 1,000 tonnes of sarin, mustard and VX nerve gas, some of it stored as bulk raw chemicals and some of it already loaded onto missiles, warheads or rockets.

Under a Russian-US deal struck last month, Syria must render useless all production facilities and weapons-filling equipment by November, a process begun over the past several weeks.

Two good decisions by USA :O :O

1 . Not selecting Malala ( i am not serious in this comment , because i knew it that that was enough for them to select her as a nominee )
2 . For Syria . ( Now here is a question , how a story of Syria goes after a watchdog of Chemical weapons is being awarded a Noble prize )

so It proves my Point. We were fighting on the thing which doesn't exist. They gave Nobel Prize to organization which most of us never heard off. Another thing is that Nobel Prize is not given by america. Those who were saying that this is American drama they should know that Nobel Prize is not given by America.

Nobel prize was not given by America ?

Who is in advantage after seeing the main reason of syrian crisis is the use of chemical weapons . And this is the point America is raising again and again .

Malala's father, expelled the poor children from school.

Shortly before the alleged attack on Malala by the Swat Taliban, a private school (Prosperous Public School) Principal (who was the father of Malala of the same school) a child was expell from the school because her parents Can not pay school fees on time ...
Now the principal's daughter Malala Yousafzai talk to spread education to all.. isn't it a joke.

Until now after her incident what changes has she been able to bring into the lives of the girls in Swat besides the extraordinary good changes in her own life and that of her family's! Come on people wake up!

The game is over, she is not selected.
Talibans are happy.
And Malala isn't such a great thing to be discussed.

It is given by america. Nobel prize lost its credibility when they gave it to obama for peace. The one who is behind war in multiple countries is awarded for peace . .

Malala picks up another awards as she reunites with friends

Malala, who survived an assassination attempt from the Taliban after her outspoken support of education for women, was given an honorary master's degree by Edinburgh University.

now in Edinburg University degrees are given on Malala's merit

Edinburgh Masters Degree given to ''Malala'' ''The Legend'' looks like a cheap piece of paper thrown in a trash.
Listen to this girl's speech, whenever she talks, she repeats the word education, does she know any other word? even she taught the Queen Elizabeth 2 about education, do you think she(the Queen) doesn't know Education.
Now seriously to me this word ''Education'' looks like a Superficial thing, and i have a doubt. It's his father who put some words about education in her mind before meeting someone like Obama or the Queen etc.
