When death reared her ugly face,

I stood my ground, defiant.

When all was lost, but my hope,

My love for life was fading.

And yet death stared with those eyes,

Those eyes, eyes which stare, and kill-

My eyes meet hers, hold my breath-

And wait for her to claim it.

My last breath, it never comes.

She turns, leaves, yet turns her head,

And nods; as if she would say

Those dreaded few words, I heard,

“I’ll be back, some day, you know.”

And so she turns, hold my breath,

Her cloaked head turns to the night,

Disappearing into where?

I could not say- yet I tell,

She went to ready my hell !
