Mere sarkash taraane sun ke duniya ye samajhti hai
k shaayad mere dil ko ishq ke nagmo'n se nafrat hai

mujhe hungama-e-jang-o-jadal mein qaif milta hai
meri fitrat ko khoonrezi ke afsaano se ragbat hai

meri duniya mein kuch vaqa’at nahi'n hai raqs-o-nagme ki
mera mehboob nagma shor-e-aahang-e-bagaawat hai

magar ae kaash! dekhein wo meri pursoz raato'n ko
main jab taaro'n pe nazarein gadaakar aansu bahaata hoon

tasavvur banke bhooli vaardaatein yaad aati hain
to soz-o-dard ki shiddat se peharo'n tilmilaata hoon

koi khwaabo'n mein khwaabeeda umango ko jagaati hai
to apni zindagi ko maut ke pehlu mein paata hoon

main shaayar hoon mujhe fitrat ke nazaaro'n se ulfat hai
mera dil dushman-e-nagma-saraai ho nahi'n sakta

mujhe insaaniyat ka dard bhi bakhsha hai qudrat ne
mera maqsad faqat shola navaai ho nahi'n sakta

jawaan hoon main jawaani lagzisho'n ka ek toofaa'n hai
meri baato'n mein rang-e-paarsaai ho nahi'n sakta

mere sarakash taraano'n ki haqeeqat hai to itni hai
ki jab main dekhta hoon bhookh ke maare kisaano'n ko
gareebo'n ko, mufliso'n ko, bekaso'n ko, besahaaro'n ko
sisakti naazneeno'n ko, tadapte nau-jawaano'n ko
huqoomat ke tash'addud ko, amaarat ke taqabbur ko
kisike chithdo'n ko aur shehanshaahi khazaano'n ko

to dil taab-e-nishaat-e-bazm-e-ishrat laa nahi'n sakta
main chaahu'n bhi to khwaab-aawar taraane ga nahi'n sakta.
