All about AD MOD Paper Pattern/recruitment process...!!

The queries of the aspirants are not new and they have been answered several times by the senior members of this forum… yet no one bothers to search for. Most of the questions are childish but one must not be blamed for his ability and approach. We are here to help and we will... to the extent we can.

In this post I will try to address the FAQ by the aspirants.

Eligibility
Anyone who holds Master’s degree like MA/MSC or equivalent... like graduation, 4 years in any degree which is equivalent to masters as notified by HEC, is eligible.

Note 1: Jobs announced are on permanent basis. It is not mentioned in current advertisement and I wonder that most of the people neglected such important point.

Note 2: Previously the educational requirement was simple graduation but this time… its MA or equivalent. last time Masters in Political science/IR/defense and strategic studies were also preferable. Condition for not appearing more than thrice is also omitted and nothing is mentioned regarding those who failed ISSB twice.

Reasons are unknown…

Stages:
Primarily the recruitment process will invite you to written, psychometric and the Interview stage.

Note: there is no other stage except Medical for finally appointed candidates only.

Number of candidates for AD post in 2014:
Candidates applied: 96,000
Qualified written and called for psychometric: 3000
Shortlisted for interview: Around 5 candidates against each post.

Note: The data is rough but indicated by various sources... besides calculated estimate somewhat near to authentic figures.

Paper pattern:
Previously the papers were taken by FPSC or MOD itself. In 2014 the task was assigned to NTS and we should focus that pattern for prudent judgment. In 2014… paper was of 150 marks (50 marks Mcqz and 100 Marks written descriptive). 5 questions from written descriptive was to be attempted (in 250 t0 300 words). Total allotted time was 3 and half hours (for Mcqz as well as written descriptive. No restriction for allocation of specific time to particular section of paper.

Note: One need not to ask about the pattern of psychometric testing until one is shortlisted for psychometric testing.

What to study and how to study?
Everything you can… to get prepared for the paper. For current affairs you need to study dawn on daily basis. Last time an outline was given with each question to answer but it is advised to present you as an analytical writer. Express your thoughts while following their points, so it is better to work on developing your own power of expression.
For MCQz portion… it is like typical NTS test for such posts that includes: English, General Science, General knowledge, Current Affairs, Mathematics, Analytical reasoning, Pakistan affairs. Marks assigned to each portion were not well defined. Along with GAT general book for NTS… you can consult PPSC past papers, FPSC past papers, General Knowledge MCQs by Ch. Ahmed Najeeb.

Note: You will not have enough time for preparation. In my personal opinion it would be roughly 20 to 30 days after the closing date… so it’s better to start your preparations on war footings…Now…

Time taken for whole recruitment process:
Written was held on 9th March 2014… result of written was announced on 11th May 2014 and psychometric was held on 1st June 2014. Result of psychometric was announced in late August 2014 for the candidates who were shortlisted for next stage… i.e. final stage…the interview stage. Interviews were scheduled in Nov and Dec-2014 and finally selected candidates were called for joining in August 2015.

Note: At this stage please do not ask that what was asked in interview.

Security Clearance:
Its constant and silent process from the day one clear written examination. Generally we are under impression that security clearance will be carried out after interview... for selected and reserved candidates only. However, when I qualified written test in May 2014, concerned officials contacted my senior and asked everything about me for purpose of security clearance. so it can be assumed that at first the security clearance is just to verify your particulars and after interview... thorough process of security clearance will be carried out for selected and reserved candidates.

I hope that I have answered most of the queries that were haunting the aspirants. It is my sincere advice that please do not waste your and other’s time in making useless posts anymore… and contribute in some healthy and constructive discussion.

P.S: I was reached to the interview stage but didn’t get final call letter. I have communicated what I knew…

Wishing Good Luck to all of the candidates.
May ALLAH bless all of us… Ameen
Thank you

Regards

Brother, can you please provide us with a sample answer for the descriptive portion of the test? As there was a limit of 300 words in 2014 paper, so, how did you answer the question, did you presented your answer in a single paragraph or in many paragraphs or an outline form with headings followed by explanations and did you followed the 300 words limit?

I am afraid brother that I cannot answer your queries in brief. Kindly explore the following link and it will address your query for sure.

It is not necessary that NTS will follow the same pattern this time too. If you analyze the previous papers for the said post, it can be deduced that every time MOD followed different patterns. Besides Mcqz, one should expect Essay writing too. It could be either CA discussion/paragraph writing or Essay writing.

I think NTS will not disclose the pattern as it didn't last time. NTS will follow the instructions of MOD and Candidates may have to improvise, so expect the unexpected.

one should go through the previous papers to get an insight about the natures of questions asked.

Please also guide about descriptive part of paper

How did you attempt descriptive part of the paper and how many pages and paragraphs you wrote on each topic? As question was that write a para about 300 words on each topic?

jeelani Tuesday, November 10, 2015 05:28 PM

Thank you Divergent for posting such useful information. i had applied for AD MoD in 2014 and made it to interview. i was interviewed on 15th November 2014 but nothing afterwards. i was a silent observer to these posts last year but this time i intend to participate actively and share my experiences as well. But i don't think last time they mentioned " twice rejected by ISSB" as ineligibility.

mohsinali303 Tuesday, November 10, 2015 06:08 PM

First of all Divergent I am very thankful for this worthy post from your end.
I want to know your stance on the transparency of these posts.
Last year I appeared and did well in test,Later I came to know that you are failed in test.
Even marks were not disclosed to candidates,NTS normally displays marks on web.
Just share your thinking whether its transparent or not.
Thank you.

Dear brother, Refer to post # 4 of this thread, question is already answered.

Pleasure is all mine. I think it is our moral responsibility to help the new comers as once we were. Your decision is much appreciated and welcomed.
But i don't think last time they mentioned " twice rejected by ISSB" as ineligibility.
Yes my dear brother… Neither they nor I mentioned it as ineligibility. I just answered an anticipated question which was asked by several friends of mine in order to clear the ambiguity.
Someone throw light on the SI post as well. I need to know about it
I am unfamiliar with the recruitment process of SI or staff grade. However you should search the previous threads of this section and you will find answers to your questions.

Brother, Refer to the organization we are talking about, believe me its merit based recruitment process. The reason for hiding the marks is quite simple and logical but cannot be disclosed on social forum.

Note: Generally by the word transparency we meant merit based, but we should not confuse the both. In strict meaning of the word, Transparency is nowhere in this country, not even in FPSC… but FPSC is an icon for merit based recruitment process.

i'm a silent and keen observer of this forum, and i have a request, can we all be serious for a moment and discuss test materials instead of going gaga about the privileges and perks that are associated with this job, i may sound a bit harsh here but seriously guys don't act like "sheikh chilees". focus on study share some important topics for note writing exchange g.k mcqs with one another, instead of repeatedly calling the name of this security organization and discussing nature of the job.

regards.

I was shortlisted in 2014 written exam but unfortunately didn't manage to clear psychometric test. Can anyone please tell me what are Current Hot Topics which we should expect for Descriptive questions ?

I believe things have changed a lot in Pakistan and in the world in last one year and I am not in touch with current affairs/News.

I appeared (and qualified) the last time these posts were announced. I wrote a maximum of four pages per essay/question. As the outlines were already there in the question sheet, I knew the idea was clear and emphasized on expression and clarity instead. To be honest, I didn't have enough information on any of the topics; neither was I updated nor did I prepare properly for the paper. I just went and made good use of my writing skills.

Psychometric Testing for MoD...!!

I hope that all of the qualifiers have finished enjoying their cup of coffee and now this the time to move on. In this post I will try to describe the pattern of psychometric testing by NTS. At this very moment, we all are well aware of the fact that MoD enjoys the element of surprise, yet we will look over the last year’s pattern to have an idea over the subject.

Psychometric is more or less like psychological Test of CSS or ISSB. Basic contents of psychometric testing are...

IQ test

Non Verbal: 50
Verbal 50
Total allotted time: 30 minutes

REBT (Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy)

It is like filling the blanks.
E.g: I like….., I love…. , Sometimes…
Around 30 in English and 30 in Urdu

MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory)

MCQ type questions.
E.g.: I like crime stories
A. Strongly agree B. Agree C. Neutral D. Disagree E. Strongly disagree.

TAT (Thematic Apperception Test)

Traditional picture story writing. Candidates will be required to write 3 stories and 5 minutes for each story.

Associated words

A specific word will be displayed for 10 seconds and candidates will have to write sentence on the word. After 10 seconds, next word will appear.
Total words: 30

Your strengths, weaknesses etc. etc.

Note 1: There is no right or wrong answer to the questions. It is purely personality assessment test and yet one of the difficult to clear. The authorities are not interested in knowing our traits but they are searching for the required and we don’t know that what they are looking for.

Note 2: Psychological stage is very important because many of candidates will be filtered out at this stage. It is advised to prepare yourself on scientific lines.

Note 3: I cannot prepare any candidate via forum, so it is advised to consult ISSB books for preparations.

Note 4: Be positive, you will have not the time to think so start working on your psychological profile and don't try to lie... because this multi dimensional test is designed to point out any lies.

Wish all of the candidates in their endeavours. May ALLAH bless us with success. Ameen

P.S: I usually observe the forum activities silently. Most of the people don’t bother to read the thread, but energetically ready to put in the Question that was answered previously. Almost every qualifier possesses something unique, so please don’t tarnish the image of MoD/NTS by asking useless questions. I will answer only the legitimate queries of the aspirants, If any...
Thank you.

Thank you.

Material

@Divergent

Sir, can you please recommend any practice material, books/guides/videos etc for psychometric? People prepare in academies for ISSB and they perform well in ISSB, I mean their ratio is significantly higher as compared to un-prepared ones.
Sir please suggest any material/links?

Misc. queries on Psychometric...!!
Dear Divergent,
i have been selected for SI MOD, The psychometric test, you stated above for AD MOD, will also be conducted for Sub Inspector MOD also>

And What will be the career path and perks of Sub inspector MOD, If you have a knowledge about ?

Thanks in advance
Psychometric was also part of recruitment process for SI post. I do not know the perks and privileges of SI in MoD but I am pretty sure that they are comparatively good from same cadre of service in other departments. Career and promotions in this organization, depends on the capacity and performance of the individual.

3 times experience of psychological assessment in CSS will surely serve you good. I don't know that what your psychological profile depicted so I cant comment about the status. when I started to prepare for psychological, during my CSS campaign, I paid visit to different teachers for the said purpose. Interestingly, they didn't teach me, but pointed out mistakes of others by telling what to do and what not to do. they also highlighted some of contradictory points in statements of same nature. I am not student of psychology, yet extracted all the information on MMPI, REBT, TAT and other ingredients of the process. I wouldn't say that I have good knowledge about this whole psychometric process, but I did my best in dissection of the concept and to prepare my profile as a whole, and Alhmadulilah It served me well, whenever needed.

Dogar's book for ISSB will surely help you for practice. Try to visit any expert for the purpose. By expert, I don't mean a teacher of psychology, rather psychologist or an expert who knows how to prepare you rightly. Material is available on the internet but alone material wouldn't help much until you look for the errors. Besides, the experts will help you by providing the Standard material for practice (which they usually don't give or allow to photocopy. you can take your written scripts only)

Note: one more thing, I have seen the people who didn't even prepare for this but cleared the stage. May be they possess something that was required. it mean, one have to show what one truly is... or.... pretend to be, what the employer want. In former case, One will be happy and satisfied with the job because it would match the nature, while in later case... the feeling of being discontent will accompany.

Number of candidates short-listed: : I am not sure but I observed that usually NTS short lists candidates on the basis of 1:50 (average, 10 more or less) for psychometric and 1:5 for Interview purpose, If not specifically directed by the concerned department.

May ALLAH bless all of us with success. Ameen

dear fellows'
i had wonderful experience in css psychological as well as in viva and scored well but fell in written thats why could not get allocated because of low score in written. any way, practice is useful for psychological for verbal and non verbal both...group tasks pay a lot in good performance in verbal test while in non verbal candidate has to do perform efficiently and positively in given time...i all learnt this from psychologist member of commission...so, some tips are also required to write picture stories, sentence completion, autobiography and personality performa .....some one has to shape his personality according to the job requirements which i learned.
moreover, IQ, testing can be done well by practice , for this issb books are sufficient.
for verbal session, need to improve spoken skills , argumentative ability , etc
posture, gesture, gait style, eye contact, talking style all are noticed by the panel as well.
concludingly, its not easy as seems , its the test of personality indeed.

Agreed with the statement. "Psychologist member of the commission..." yes indeed, I did the same too.... and the 2 days activities were wonderful and memorable. Now having a clear picture of your preparation lines, you shouldn't be worried much. Good marks in interview are reflections of good psychological assessment, just shape your personality traits according to the requirement. it will invite little changes only. Group discussion, commanding the command task and panel of Psychologists wouldn't be part of Psychometric by NTS.

@ sharpmind... Really sorry brother, I don't have any idea regarding the process of TAS. The nature of job, as the name reflects... will be analysing the communicative signals and report accordingly. (My Personal opinion.)
