protection is the thing not provided by Operating system accounting and i/o are the most basic facilities provided by os , studied it in the book of Silberchetz.....for protection then we use firewalls and antiviruses etc

ASPZIA.. accounting ? where in OS?
wel protection.. not in sense to Protect pc from outside attacks..
Operating System is resources manager .. so about protection , read Dual Mode Operation.. Memory Protection.. OS deos provide Protection..
