and also

well i m nt sure but if i recall from some rules . we dnt use are or is form with I mostly .

Please note that there are certain conditions where we deviate from the simple rules which we have learned in our early classes. Like we have learned that "were" is not used with "I" only "was" is used with "I" but there comes a situation where "were" suites better with "I" and "was" doesn't.

Like: Would that I were president of Pakistan. (Correct)
but "Would that I was president of Pakistan. (Incorrect)

Similarly we have learned that "shall" is used with "I" and "will" is not used with "I" but there comes a situation where "will" suites better with "I" and "shall" doesn't suite there.

Like: when we want to show extra emphasis (conformity):
I will do this work. (Correct)

In the same way we can't always attach "am" with "I". Think over the structure of sentence and then attach proper helping verb.
In: My pupils as well as I are doing this work.

"are" is not used only for "I" but refers to a different scenario.

My pupils as well as I are doing this work. (Correct)
