but in case of "as well as " we are referring to entities at their indiviual level not combined by and so "I" can go wid "am "

Combined??? "As well as" is a
conjunction and conjunction means "combination". Hence, same rule applies here.
Quote:
My pupils as well as I are doing this work [ dis is correct too ]
|
Quote:
my pupils as well as I am doing this work . [dis is correct as well and i am more sure abt this one ]
|
Only first one with 'are' is correct. The other one rules out. If you dont agree, say it in urdu.
"Meray shagird aur main yeh kaam ker rahi hoon"

and yes zobia has put fwd another gud suggestion .

Grammar is not a matter of suggestion. You cannot apply your own rules here or what sounds good to your heart.
Lets take what Zobia says:
Quote:
"what if we do it like it? "my pupils as well as myself are doing this work"
|
Again try it in urdu.
"Meray shagird aur
main khud yeh kaam ker rahay hain"
I dont know what is confusing you people now when everything has been made clear by Raz and Tauqeer .
