@ H.E and those concerned : Perhaps you have not read my refrence, or if you have read ;you have not properly digested its crux. let me briefly sum up this discussion.
Following both are correct sentences according to the rule i have mentioned in my earlier post

Correct : my pupils, as well as i, am doing this work.

Correct : my pupils as well as i are doing this work.

yes ! both of above sentences are correct. but note the difference in the form of composition; first sentence is separated out by comma marks ,whereas the other one does not have any commas. This means, in simple language, that Comma decides in which way we are speaking! so that the subject can be taken as plural or singular as the case may be in the form of our intonation. This is indeed a very delicate difference,and, i can understand why its so confusing. but this is the rule as per source link as mentioned by me and mohsin shah.
