Inspector IR is a Bs-16 post. Salary is approx 68k per month in big cities where house requisition allowance is provided. Working environment is not that good in terms of office spaces and work stations even for ACIRs and situation is worse for Inspectors and lower staff. Inspector reports to and works under the ACIR. JDs include collection out of arrear current demand, arrear demand, survey of jurisdiction etc. He assists ACIR in framing assessment orders, making official correspondence such as day to day reports letters etc with higher ups.Promotion process is very slow and is based upon seniority cum fitness. Inspector is first promoted to the post of Inland Revenue Officer which is also Bs-16 post with almost same responsibilities as those of ACIR ( but he is promotee :P). IRO is promoted to the rank of ACIR. Usually inspector is promoted as an IRO after serving nearly for 20 years and more than that for ACIR post considering seniority and availability of vacancy under promotion quota.
