1) Despite last month's death toll in Iraq, U.S. military leaders expressed confidence in their latest security operation, highlighted by the arrival of 12,000 U.S. and Iraqi troops in Baghdad. The top U.S. commander there says he's "very optimistic." (CBS News)
2) Raging violence has claimed at least nine victims around Iraq as Muslims from the bitterly divided Sunni and Shiite communities gathered in their respective mosques to pray for peace. (AFP via Yahoo! News)
