Again, my assumption may not be valid. But one thing is for sure that if 'evil and suffering' refers to the same thing it will take singular verb otherwise plural verb.
Yes, Same I had said in very first post if EVIL and SUFFERING resemble to one thing then singular verb was needed. Matter is, if it refers to one thing or not.
There is not evil and suffering but there is S with sufferings which creates confusion.
