Default banking career...

Banking career is generally considered as lucrative one. Though the perception is not completely true, yet banking offers comparatively better career prospects. Quite handsome monetary compensation along with fringe benefits such as medical, bonuses , staff loans are some of the hallmarks of banking career.
Before 1990's a major proportion of banking industry was under public control. That time job in public sector bank was by no means less lucrative than any other public sector organization. However the deregulation process started in 1992 with privatization of MCB triggered cut throat competition. It has lead the exponential expansion of banking industry with number of total banks operating in Pakistan reached to 52.
This expansion bodes well for economy as it created many job opportunities, lead to automation of banking and raised the service standards of the banking. But simultaneously many of the perks and privileges that were available to the employees during Govt Control were withdrawn. Currently bankers working in private banks are found complaining about the working conditions , job insecurity, over load and salary not being in line with the economic conditions.
However young bankers do have the opportunity to switch to other banks to get higher grades and compensation.
That said, given the rising unemployment in the country, banking may be opted as a career , if no better opportunity in comparison to banking is available.
Here I am going to share few tips that may help a job hunter explore career in banking.
1-Regester yourself in the career database of all banks.here is link of all banks operating in Pakistan.
http://www.sbp.org.pk/f_links/index.asp
2- Register yourself at Job websites especially Rozee.pk
3- Banks normally post their jobs in national press especially in Jang and Dawn of Sunday.
4- Professional certifications/qualifications(ACCA,ACMA,CFA,CIA,CISA etc ) enhance one’s chance of getting employers attention.
5- JAIBP certificate from IBP(www.ibp.org.pk) increases your chance of entry in to banking.
6-IBP is offering an other course for potential bankers, certified teller course. It may help you enter in to the banking arena.
