Objectives of Jihad


1. To please Allah Almighty رضانے الہی کا حصول

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الَّذِينَ يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِهِ صَفًّا كَأَنَّهُمْ بُنْيَانٌ مَرْصُوصٌ

Verily, Allah loves those who fight in His Cause in rows (ranks) as if they were a solid structure.

بے شک الله تو ان کو پسند کرتا ہے جو اس کی راہ میں صف باندھ کر لڑتے ہیں گویا وہ سیسہ پلائی ہوئی دیوار ہے

61:4 Surat Aş-Şaf (The Ranks) - سورة الصف

2. Attainment of the rank of momin مومن کا درجہ

إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَرْتَابُوا وَجَاهَدُوا بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنْفُسِهِمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الصَّادِقُونَ

The believers are only the ones who have believed in Allah and His Messenger and then doubt not but strive with their properties and their lives in the cause of Allah . It is those who are the truthful.

بے شک مومن تو وہ ہیں جو خدا اور اس کے رسول پر ایمان لائے پھر شک میں نہ پڑے اور خدا کی راہ میں مال اور جان سے لڑے۔ یہی لوگ (ایمان کے) سچے ہیں

49:15 Surat Al-Ĥujurāt (The Rooms) - سورة الحجرات

3. Purgation of heart & inner self تزکیہ نفس
وَمَنْ جَاهَدَ فَإِنَّمَا يُجَاهِدُ لِنَفْسِهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَغَنِيٌّ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ

And whoever strives only strives for [the benefit of] himself. Indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds.
اور جو شخص کوشش کرتا ہے تو اپنے ہی بھلے کے لیے کرتا ہے بے شک الله سارے جہان سے بے نیاز ہے

29:6 Surat Al-`Ankabūt (The Spider) - سورة العنكبوت

4. Thirst of Martyrdom شہادت کی امید

the Holy Prophet PBUH said: The souls of the martyrs live in the bodies of green birds who have their nests in chandeliers hung from the throne of the Almighty. They eat the fruits of Paradise from wherever they like and then nestle in these chandeliers. (Sahih Muslim, 20:4651)

Prophet PBUH said, "Nobody who dies and finds good from Allah (in the Hereafter) would wish to come back to this world even if he were given the whole world and whatever is in it, except the martyr who, on seeing the superiority of martyrdom, would like to come back to the world and get killed again (in Allah's Cause)." (Sahih Bukhari, 4:52:53)

وَلَا تَقُولُوا لِمَنْ يُقْتَلُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَمْوَاتٌ ۚ بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ وَلَٰكِنْ لَا تَشْعُرُونَ

Translation: And say not of those who are killed in the Way of Allah, "They are dead." Nay, they are living, but you perceive (it) not.

اور جو لوگ خدا کی راہ میں مارے جائیں ان کی نسبت یہ کہنا کہ وہ مرے ہوئے ہیں (وہ مردہ نہیں) بلکہ زندہ ہیں لیکن تم نہیں جانتے

2:154 Surat Al-Baqarah (The Cow) - سورة البقرة

وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَمْوَاتًا ۚ بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ

Think not of those who are killed in the Way of Allah as dead. Nay, they are alive, with their Lord, and they have provision.

جو لوگ خدا کی راہ میں مارے گئے ان کو مرے ہوئے نہ سمجھنا (وہ مرے ہوئے نہیں ہیں) بلکہ خدا کے نزدیک زندہ ہیں اور ان کو رزق مل رہا ہے

3:169 Surat 'Āli `Imrān (Family of Imran) - سورة آل عمران

5. Assurance of a splendid afterlife اخروی نجات

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا هَلْ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَىٰ تِجَارَةٍ تُنْجِيكُمْ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ
تُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَتُجَاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِأَمْوَالِكُمْ وَأَنْفُسِكُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ


O You who believe! Shall I guide you to a transaction that will save you from a painful torment.
It isThat you believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad SAW), and that you strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives, that will be better for you, if you but know!

مومنو! میں تم کو ایسی تجارت بتاؤں جو تمہیں عذاب الیم سے مخلصی دے
(وہ یہ کہ) خدا پر اور اس کے رسولﷺ پر ایمان لاؤ اور خدا کی راہ میں اپنے مال اور جان سے جہاد کرو۔ اگر سمجھو تو یہ تمہارے حق میں بہتر ہے

61-10, 11 Surat Aş-Şaf (The Ranks) - سورة الصف

۞ فَلْيُقَاتِلْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ الَّذِينَ يَشْرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا بِالْآخِرَةِ ۚ وَمَنْ يُقَاتِلْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَيُقْتَلْ أَوْ يَغْلِبْ فَسَوْفَ نُؤْتِيهِ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

Let those (believers) who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter fight in the Cause of Allah, and whoso fights in the Cause of Allah, and is killed or gets victory, We shall bestow on him a great reward.

تو جو لوگ آخرت (کو خریدتے اور اس) کے بدلے دنیا کی زندگی کو بیچنا چاہتے ہیں اُن کو چاہیئے کہ خدا کی راہ میں جنگ کریں اور جو شخص خدا کی راہ میں جنگ کرے اور شہید ہوجائے یا غلبہ پائے ہم عنقریب اس کو بڑا ثواب دیں گے
4:74 Surat An-Nisā' (The Women) - سورة النساء

Allah's Apostle PBUH said, "Allah guarantees him who strives in His Cause and whose motivation for going out is nothing but Jihad in His Cause and belief in His Word, that He will admit him into Paradise (if martyred) or bring him back to his dwelling place, whence he has come out, with what he gains of reward and booty." (Sahih Bukhari, 4:53:352

Prophet Muhammad PBUH said, "Know that Paradise is under the shades of swords." (Sahih Bukhari, 4:52:73

Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) said: If anyone fights in Allah's path as long as the time between two milkings of a she-camel, Paradise will be assured for him. If anyone sincerely asks Allah for being killed and then dies or is killed, there will be a reward of a martyr for him. (Sunan Abu Dawud, 14:2535)

It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) say:... "By the Being in Whose Hand is my life, I love that I should be killed in the way of Allah; then I should be brought back to life and be killed again in His way." (Sahih Muslim, 20:4631
