Is there no mistake in this sentence "The Hindus supported East India Company provided that they would co-operate with them." I was discussing it with my friend that in the above sentence the use of the word "Would" is inappropriate and incorrect because with the If-clause,we don't use will or would,etc but simple tenses.However,my friend is of the view that there lies no mistake in the sentence;would can be used with provided that.
