Default Cut your coat according to your cloth

This proverb depicts a wise approach to live an honourable life. Tailoring one's expenses according to one's resources paves the way to satisfaction and peace of mind and soul.

If one takes a cloth to a tailor and wants to get a proper coat stitched from it, he must have to give the measurements according to the size of cloth. Because the tailor will adjust the coat with the cloth, not the cloth with the coat. The tailor will not be adding any extra cloth himself to make a big coat. Similar is the case of a respectful life. One has to meet his needs with his own money. He would have to rely on his own resources instead of looking for others' resources.

A peaceful and comfortable life is only possible if one stays within his limits. Our society is facing a day to day increased crime just because people want to cut their coat according to others' cloth. One is impressed by the showoff of wealthy people and wants to adopt their lifestyle. In pursuance, he goes for every possible mean of earning money, often getting indulged into criminal activities like bribery, fraud, theft, and sometimes even murder. Not only he causes unrest to others but he himself loses his self-hood along with self esteem, respect and nobility. A wise person has to be thrifty and contented to his own resources.

Businessmen have too to keep this proverb in mind while investing their capital in the projects. If they do not manage an appropriate balance between their expenditure and their capital, they must fall in heavy debts. This will lead to a great trouble.

An honourable life can be easily lived if the proverb is followed in its true spirit. Giving priority to the basic needs according to one's own budget is the only way to stay on a respectable edge. One must be happy with cutting his coat according to his own cloth.
