Default Islamisation vs Secularism?

A few days ago i came across a write up which asserted that, we as a nation, have deviated from the path Jinnah had envisaged for us. It said that Jinnah dreamt of a secular Pakistan, free from any sort of religious prejudice.
Many books, i have read argue that Pakistan was acquired in the name of Islam and thus was meant to be a true religious state while many others contend that the primary reason behind the Independence movement was to secure a state where muslims were politically free and thier social identity maintained and that religion was only secondary motive.
Need your views.
Dont you people think that this 'Ideology tussle' between Islamists and Seculars is the root cause of the current political and social turmoil in Pakistan?
Regards
