It seems they have deliberately held themselves back from disclosing the remuneration for the position in the email. They are seeking candidates who have no other career plans during this one year means those selected should stick to this job until its completion. In this scenario they should pay a reasonable salary given the fact that there seems no prospect of continuation of the job and is something purely on contract.
