Going against the topic is not a healthy approach at all. When the examiner has already taken a stance that labor saving devices are more troublesome, then there is no need to go against the topic. If the topic were ' labor saving devices; blessing or curse?', then you would take a side and prove your stance. However, it's always safer to move with the tide.
