Yemen a regional theatre of the proxy wars

This Middle East conundrum and crazy Arab Identity race should carefully be tackled by Pakistan. The situation in Yemen is, by any description, incendiary and Pakistan, as matters stand, appears to be getting ready to jump into the fray.

It is thorny for Pakistan to play favourites with either Saudi or Iran — considering Pakistan’s strategic relationship with the former and geographical proximity with the latter. Considering in-house sectarian issues, own predicament, geo-political issues neutrality would have been the wisest option for Pakistan. Negotiator not the participant in Yemen conflict would work. Getting involved in what is essentially an internal conflict is unwise. Pakistan should not forget that Saudi has fueled and funded extremism in Pakistan, a fact which has been officially accepted and declared publicly by Government of Pakistan. Similar is the role of Iran. Alas! We have very short memories. International players like USA, Israel, Arab conglomeration etc. have their vested interests in this game. Having known these ground realities Pakistan needs to tread carefully and opt for diplomatic solution.

Saudi tries to garner support on the platform of OIC. Current slant of historically impotent OIC is a function of it becoming hostage to political bickering and bipolar Muslim world i.e. Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Pakistan’s assertion to evoke a strong response in case of any threat to Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity is a fine flirt. Pakistan should continue to flirt with Arabs and keep the diplomatic wheels turning but refrain from putting boots on the ground. Boys should hold their horses and use their brain.

Family friendships and indebtness slavery should not influence strategic decisions. We need to learn from our past mistakes of proxy wars, cold war, and paid/hired fighters roles. Selling boots or letting these on rent is lucrative business of the modern era but we can’t afford in this scenario.

And for God sake don’t be emotionally carried away by the cause of Qaba, nobody is gonna dare to attack our Holy place. We are being emotionally exploited by Arabs.
