Around 2 to 3 books...because you will neva find all topics in a single core book.
Or search it on Google. It will help you more rather then to go for any book.

It is advisable to study from only one book and if you don't find all topics there only then consult more books.

dear sister, there is no need to go through two or more than two books for preparation. You can prepare easily by consulting one book.one book formula does work. But,it is advisable to read other books for certain topics for having clarity and inferring peculiar conclusions.Otherwise, internet and other e-based research can facilitate you.Just keep in mind the type of topic and question..

assalam u alaikum, I think the quality of book's comprehension and authentication of writer matters, if both these confirmed, then only one book may get through. may Allah bless you all

Depend on someone interest and capacity.
I have numbers of books for compulsory and optional subjects.
But preparing according to the syllabus and from past papers, I choose a topic and search from reference books, helping books as well as from internet and also made flash notes.
A single book never cover the all syllabus, its my point of view.
The preparation strategy change person to person.
Best of Luck

If you have time for preparation you must try to read at least a couple of books recommended in the syllabus. FPSC also urges candidates that instead of preparing through "golden" notes or formula books, they should try to go through the recommended books. Obviously one cannot read all recommended books for every subject, simply choose the one which covers most of the syllabus.

One can not find whole syllabus in one book, if he did, it will give only introduction of topics. you must cover each and every aspect, area of a topics given in syllabus. CSS is competitive exam, every one read recommended books. You have to put extra efforts in exam. You don't have to be phd in subject but be at least mphil in syllabus given by fpsc.
