The judgement of High Court is being taken out of context in the news. The court ruled that the exams should be conducted in Urdu language in line with the decision given by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in the case of Muhammad Kowkab Iqbal v Government of Pakistan (Commonly known as Implementation of Article 251 which refers to the implementation of Urdu as official language). This was a historical judgement delivered by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja. Let me reproduce the relevant part of the judgement for the purpose of competitive examination. The Learned Judge ordered:
"vi- In the competitive examinations at Federal level the recommendations of government bodies noted above, should be considered by the Government for implementation without unnecessary delay"
The recommendations of National Language Promotion Department were as follows(these recommendations are also being reproduced from the said judgement):
i) There must be a compulsory paper of practical Urdu in CSS which would be of 50 marks.
ii) There must be an elective paper of Urdu which shall be of 200 marks.
iii) Urdu must be used for CSS and all papers should be in Urdu and English.

Consequently, there will be a compulsory paper of Urdu, candidates will be able to answer the questions in either Urdu or in English except for the Paper of English (Obviously!)

It would be more welcoming if Lahore High Court first ensures the conduction of judicial exams which induct Additional District and Sessions Judges and Civil Judges-cum-Magistrates in URDU. These exams usually comprise of papers e.g. Constitutional Law, Civil Law, Criminal Law, English Language all are held in the medium of english language. The Honorable Court must take start from the home.

Aisi urdu ka kia faida k mein computer science k paper mein 'Byte' to 'بائٹ' likhon. Urdu is only good as a language subject but not good as a medium to express those subjects whose very base is English language. Urdu is only good for those who want to be poet or something.
