These readings no doubt are really really good, though the issue is that (1) significant amount of time is required for such readings. These readings are meant for a wider exposure and preparation of examination in a longer period of time, not for a 3 month stint, and (ii) they are not conveniently available nowadays, at least in Pakistan. I happened to read a few of the suggested readings for two of the optionals while I was in UK, and I thought FPSC suggested some really nice material.
So in order to overcome these two issues, people tend to go out for ready made guide books by Bhattis and Dogars, which in fact at the first place are also mostly copied from the very same sources FPSC mentioned.

The level of grammar as expected from a student of FA/FSc. The main things you should be preparing are:
Active Passive
Direct Indirect
and Sentence correction (which are the basics of noun, adverb, preposition etc)

For this you can get hold of any FA/FSc level Grammar book or 'Oxford Grammar book. Other good sources are (i) Direct Indirect Made Easy and (ii) Active Passive Made Easy (small thin books written in urdu/english)

To tell you honestly I did not prepare even a thing about the Precis/Grammar paper. I only relied on my sense of English usage and some past knowledge about tenses etc apart from giving a brief look at these books I mentioned above. Nor was I ever good at grammatical rules perhaps because I am from the O' Levels stream where English writing is more stressed upon than English grammar. So, I would not be honest in commenting upon the appropriateness of the resource. Better ask someone good at grammar. I guess Hamza Salick might advice you on it.
