CSS rules mention and I copy,
"A candidate must hold at least a Second Class or Grade “C” Bachelor degree in any faculty of one of the Pakistani Universities or an equivalent degree or comparable educational qualifications of a foreign University.
A candidate who has obtained a Third Division (or ‘D’ grade) in his/her Bachelor’s Degree will be eligible for the Examination in cases where he/she has obtained a higher Division in Master’s Degree"

You can choose optional according to your interest and scoring trend, you can find many threads in this form which will help you.

No, Its not mandatory, Many CSPs recommend to study at your own. But you can join academy for 1 or 2 months for guidelines and some useful tips.
