From my personal standpoint one should go for IR because it would help in Essay and it would be of great help in Current Affairs as well.

Post Political Science vs International Relations

First of all, let me tell you one thing that you must have read or, at least, heard about both of those subjects through out your life, but in general way.

Now as far as the conundrum regarding the choice and the preference is concerned, I am more inclined towards International relations, for I actually like to have knowledge regarding what's going on in an international world. Who's is playing whom like a guitar, and who is being played by whom for what. Political science on the other hand deals "primarily" with the domestic politics, and I am kind of allergic of having something baseless in my mind.

The gist is that choose what you like; what fascinates you more. Scoring trend of 2014, on the other hand, dictates that International relations is more scoring than Political Science.

Regards.

Political Science is way too dry. There are around 24 western political thinkers and they are complex, confusing and prosaic for any novice. There is more cramming in Pol. Science as compared to IR. Some of the recommended books like George H. Sabine's are extremely involved, the interesting ones like Ebenstein's are hardly to be found (unless you have access to some good library).

In short, IR is a much saner option, I believe.

Woah , nearly everyone of you will be going with International relations . Then remember 70 to 80 percent of the candidates will prefer IR over Political science for CE-2016 . If more number of students go for any subject then it does effect marking criteria . Tough marking is what we will have to face. Smart work and remaining different from others will be our main focus area to fetch good marks .
So, at the end , it does not really matters that you select IR or Political science . Your interest and aptitude is all which is important for CE-2016.

Default Agreed With Sir Ali

Subjects that are Opted by Many Candidates Will fetch a Lower Score ,it is a general perception and I Was Looking in this matter since a long time .My Personal Conclusion that This perception is a Reality . As For As Subjects are Concerned I Think Pol Sciences Will Be Beneficial For a Crammer , While IR Will be beneficial for a person Who is Always Looking deep in the Current Affairs .Rest Depends On You Capabilities

I, too, believe that IR would be less troublesome for an upstart but what is your take on IR-IL combo? There are lot of people projecting them almost as same subjects, but I don't see any such thing. While IR syllabus and past papers soothe me, IL syllabus on the other hand scares me. What if I opt IR but not IL? Will I lose a certain privilege or advantage which people get by choosing both? What do you think!
