No doubt sociology is a good subject not even in study but also keeping in mind the present trends of scoring subjects one must go for sociology.
you can take help from books like sociology by hurton and hunt and introduction to sociology by JJ baloch.

Sociology needs no background, it is in every one's nature. For sociology only being human-being is enough with all his senses open. Your observational skills and your collective thought need to be realistic. Sense of civicness and concern for environmental improvement are ingredients of good sociologist.

Sociology is very intresting subject, and with respect to CSS it is also a mark scoring. well it is knowledge about social things and problems, so that you can remember each and everything easily. there is no need of sociology background to get good marks in sociology paper

Most of the people says that it is a scoring subject and it may be..but one should opt if he/she has a interest in it..i first opt it as one of my optional but after a detailed study ov its syllabus and past papers i leave it and choose Muslim law..It is more easy as compare to it ..As Sociology is lil bit technical and dry in my point ov view..may be most ov the people here may contradict with my view..anyways i share my opinion with you..
Now itz upto your interest and aptitude..Read the past papers and the whole syllabi of Sociology..then go fo it..

I wist u best ov Luck!!!
