A.S. No. = Academy Serial Number. It is simply a roll number....ofcourse, unique for every probationer of a common. It is alloted in alphabetical order....w.r.t. First Name of the probationers.

The AS number is certainly not alphabeticaly given...because one of my friends has got 129 wheras i have got 62 and both of our names start with N....so..

i think it has some thing to do with the allocation of the rooms...

which time is more suitable for going to CSA...whether the eveninng of 28th sep..or the mornining of 29th...
and if the person is a boarder...what should he do...

It will be better to reach CSA on the night of 28th....if u r coming from Islamabad. U can even go on the morning of 29th, if easy for u.....just b there in time to attend the orientation on the morning of 29th.


Ur A.S. No. is 62.....u will be in Group 2 (G2).
A.S. No. 129 will be in Group 4 (G4)......or may be among the last in G3.

How the A.S. Nos are assigned:
1. 4 lists of probationers for 4 different groups are prepared.
2. Every group has probationers with names starting from A-Z.
3. A.S. Nos are given, starting from "A" of Group 1 and ending at the
probationer having name with "Z".
4. Next A.S. No. is alloted to the first "A" of Group 2...and so on till the last "Z" of Group 4.

Lekin it doesn't matter.....at least i think so!

@ A.J. and all senior CSPs who've completed CTP

Is there any APR (Annual Progress Report) is maintained other than academic profile during CTP; if so then who makes it & what's the criteria for it.

My query in this regard is that how & who decides on the basis of 'what xyz' about initial posting, place etc about CSP's and do CSP's also are asked by some means about their initial posting, dept etc. Kindly put light on it by a detailed post regarding this system.

In civil service, such an annual report is called an ACR (Annual Confidential Report). It is written by one's imediate boss and countersigned by the boss of that immediate boss. During the CTP, the DG of the CSA prepares that !!!

What i have seen so far is that the ACR doesn't play any role in initial posting.....it all depends on one's merit number + everyone gets a form asking for one's choices w.r.t. station of initial posting. One may give 3-4 choices.....but final decision would be made only after consulting the merit list of that particular batch. (Merit is based on the marks obtained in the CTp+STP+Passing Out exam of STP conducted by the FPSC + any additional training results).

Females are usually posted in their home town.....others follow in the order of merit !

I believe that Pakistan Civil Service(induction via CSS) exists since birth of Pakistan i.e. from about 1947; However the commoner batch is 36th currently. So what was the trend of CTP before the 1st Commoner batch. i.e. are the CSPs probationers were sent to some other country for initial training like that in Armed Forces of Pakistan at that time. Kindly put some light on it.

++ When and where did the first Academy in Pakistan started for CTP. Also, it'll be highly thankful if some CSP may post an ESSAY about CSP's & civil service and its trend from 1947-to-Date.

Situated in Lahore, Pakistan the Civil Services Academy Lahore was established in 1948 for the training of fresh entrants to the Pakistan Administrative Services (P.A.S.) and was originally called Pakistan Administrative Services Academy. With the adoption of Civil Services Pakistan Resolution, the Academy was renamed as Civil Services Academy and the campus was shifted form an old building on the Race Course Road to the Old Residency Estate on Mall Road. Meanwhile in addition to the probationers of Civil Services of Pakistan (CSP) the Academy also started training the probationers of Foreign Services of Pakistan in 1963. After the creation of Bangladesh in 1971 and the consequent loss of the Police Academy of Pakistan (then situated at Rajshahi in Bangladesh) the probationers of Police Services of Pakistan (PSP) also started training in this Academy.

With the adoption of Administrative Reforms of 1973, it was decided to organize a Common Training Program (CTP) for fresh entrants to various Central Superior Services (renamed as Occupational Groups). As a consequence the Civil Services Academy and Finance Services Academy (FSA) were merged. This Financial Services Academy was set-up by the Government of Pakistan in mid 1950s for the training of probationers of various Financial Services such as Pakistan Taxation Services (PTS), Pakistan Customs and Excise Services (PCES), Pakistan Military Accounts Service (PMAS), Pakistan Audit and Accounts Service (PAAS), and Pakistan Railway’s Accounts Service (PRAS). The huge campus of Financial Services Academy was located at Walton, which was then a sparsely populated suburb of Lahore. This new entity, created out of this merger, was renamed as Academy for Administrative Training. However, this name was once again changed to Civil Services Academy by the then President of Pakistan during his visit to the Academy in 1981.

Presently the Academy has one Campus at Walton (used exclusively for the Common Training Program) and another one at Mall Road (which is used for the Specialized Training Program of the District Management Group Officers).

Previously the Academy was a subordinate or attached department of Establishment Division, Government of Pakistan but now its an autonomous body and is run by its own Board of Governors with President of Pakistan as its Chair. The administration of the academy is run by a Director General who is usually a senior most civil servant.

"COMMON" is the term used for batches that joined civil service from 1973 onwards, i.e., after the Civil Service Reforms of 1973 (undertaken by Bhutto Govt.)....those who joined the service before 1973 are commonly known as "PRE-COMMONERS".
