With the creation of new posts, promotion in the PSP cadre has expedited. An ASP is promoted to the rank of SP within three years. Moreover, an SP is promoted to the rank of DIG within 17 years of service. A DIG is promoted to the rank of Addl:IGP within 28 years of service. IGP (BPS-22) is a selection post/rank, that is the prerogative of the Prime Minister whom he may deem appropriate to appoint against that post.

Asslamulaikum,

Hope all are fine.

Though seniors have explained yet I will have few words.

1) Firstly After ASP we have SP (Superintendent of Police) rank.
2) Secondly it varies,yet after 3 years an ASP is promoted to the rank of SP.
3) SDPO is (Sub-divisional police officer),it is mostly of DSP rank, and in absence of SP/ASP/DPO he has the charge of District and Circle.
4) For a police officer to become a DPO,it is not necessary that he must have the rank of SSP,i have witnessed DSPs as DPOs in many districts.
As one of the members has explained,that even the ASIs are S.H.Os in many rural parts.

DPO is of 19th grade. i.e. SSP.

an SP can be a a DPO. the DPO RajanPur, who happens to be the brother of my Custom batchmate, is a DPO. he is from the thirtieth common. and still an SP.

salam dear,

you a right the initial post of a psp officer is ASP with one crown after 2year he/she will get 2 crowns and lastly he will be promoted as SP with five year but after 8year of service he will get moon star an then he can be a DPO.

I doubt that statement. as i have mentioned in my earlier post the DPO that i talked about has not completed eight years, and he has been dpo since the last year.
also the moon and star goes with the sp rank, not with the lenghth of service.
