Ranks and Insignia of PSP officers

I am confused about ranks and Insignia of PSP officers....

some SSPs wear MOON STAR AND ONE BUTTON and some SSPs wear MOON STAR AND TWO BUTTONS on their shoulders

some DIGs wear MOON STAR AND TWO BUTTON and some wear MOON STAR AND THREE BUTTONS

some ADD. IGs wear MOON STAR AND THREE BUTTONS and some wear CROSS SWORDS AND ONE BUTTON

some IGs wear CROSS SWORDS AND ONE BUTTON and some CROSS SWORDS AND MOON STAR

Brother, SHO, DPO, Ad IG , IG are the posts not the designations. You may find SHOs with two stars on their shoulders. Same goes wit an SP with a crescent on his shoulder acting as a DPO. Mr Shahid Hayat is DIG by rank but acting as AddIG Sindh. You may find this in other PAS as well. A PAS officer sometimes enjoys the post of DCO or Chairman of some Authority while in 18 scale.

Exactly. I have even heard that Shahid Hayat is a junior DIG who has been given the charge by bypassing other senior DIGs in the department!

1. I think SSP,DIG,Addl. IG and IG are names of ranks as well as appointments (posts)...am i right?
Chaudhary Aslam Shaheed was SP by rank but was acting as SSP CID...

2. and DPO khanewal SSP Rana Ayaz Saleem is SP by rank (MOON STAR AND ONE BUTTON) but i read in newspapers SSP Rana Ayaz Saleem..i think DPO of a district is also called SSP of that district?

Yes Brother , DPO is a Post enjoyed by the senior most Police officer of a district. For example in the absence of the DPO Sohail Habib Tajik sb, an SP rank officer served as DPO Bahawalpur for 4,5 months. So don't get confused between a post and Rank. A DSP and ASP often work as SDPOs. In small towns a sub inspector with two stars on shoulders act as SHO, while in main cities its the inspector with three stars.

This is confusion and why does it happen? is depend on the will of govt.
Shahid Hayat is DIG. But he is serving as Addl. IG Karachi. It does not mean he got promoted to bps 21-addl ig. Your stars on your shoulder tell your Regular BPS. You can serve at senior post but you can change your stars until you get regular promotion. The same you must have observed about the IGs. It is post of bps-22. But its up to the govt. to post any officer to serve as IG. Usually an Addl IG is posted as IGs. Since they are not regular promoted to bps-22 so they do not put on stars of IG. Like IG Sindh Iqbal Mehmood who is actually Addl IG by rank in bps-21. when he will be promoted to bps-22 he will put on stars of IG.
