Go through the syllabus, first read generally around each of the topics mentioned in it. Once you understand each topic build upon it through different articles and books. Read the economist, independent, guardian, most pakistani newspapers. If you cannot find an article on a particular topic google it.

you can categorize topics like.....

1- Organization. (UN, ASEAN, EU, NATO, SAARC, COMMONWEALTH, OIC etc)
2- Relations. (PAK_USA, Pak-China, Pak-India......................)
3- International issues (Middle east, Asia's shifting power, Security issues etc)

Post Current Affairs

NOTE: Sharing with you the strategy I devised back in 2014 for CE-2015. Unfortunately, I did not appear in that particular exam because of some personal problems. However, I am sure it will greatly help you plan current affairs more efficiently.

Next week, I shall share my new strategy. Until then, read this post and get the gist out of it for better outcome.

Current Affairs 1.0: A Road Map

In lieu of shooting without aim, it is mandatory to cogitate about the strategy to be followed so as to get economical result. If you think that you can ace “Current Affairs” or “Essay” exam just by reading “DAWN” newspaper daily without having a road map, you are mistaken. Therefore, I have decided to start off this section with a “Road Map” post to get general idea of what I should aim for. Without wasting any more of your time, let me present you the road map, which I am planning to follow.

I have divided “Current Affairs” into FOUR* different categories, viz. :

Let’s discuss them one by one.

Category 1: Pakistan’s relations with other countries
As you might have heard of the notion “Foreign policy,” it is necessary to understand what exactly Pakistan’s foreign policy is. Therefore, it is the need of an hour to comprehend Pakistan’s relations with other countries, and also the intensity of the relation amongst them. For example, the notion “trust deficit” is what we hear all the time whenever someone discusses Pakistan’s relation with United States. Similarly, if you want to define Pakistan’s relation with China, you might say, just like Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Mr. Nawaz Sharif, “Our friendship is higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the deepest sea in the world, and sweeter than honey.” Obviously, you can imagine the intensity of Sino-Pak relations regardless of the weather and overt geographical picture, which NS had explained in an artistic and philosophical way. Anyhow, the aim of this category is to highlight the bonding of Pakistan with other countries. Note that, you need not to worry about Pakistan’s relation with Nigeria or Brazil etc. All that is required is the relations of Pakistan with major countries that are influencing Pakistan directly or indirectly.

So, I have divided this category into 5 sub-categories, viz. :

In the upcoming posts, I shall elucidate all of them one by one. I would definitely include other countries as well in latter course of time, but for now, I shall focus on the following five countries. Moreover, you cannot rule out the possibility in transition of relations after US withdrawal from Afghanistan, which is expected in this year, 2014. If that happens, Pakistan will most probably incline towards “RUSSIA.” Anyway, only time will tell whether or not it happens. Therefore, I shall definitely include Pakistan Russia relations after covering the above mentioned sub-categories. There are other countries like Bangladesh, England etc, but all of them will be discussed later. One last thing I want to highlight here, and that is:

Quote:
“In international diplomacy, there are no permanent friends or foes; only permanent interests.”
Quote:
Keep this quotation in mind while preparing above countries, and you would find out that international relations are solely meant to fulfill one’s own interests. Anyhow, that’s pretty much it about this category. Let’s jump to the next category.
Category 2: External Issues
There are a lot of things happening around, and all we need to do is to observe and analyse the incidents and their repercussions in shaping the future of this world. Therefore, this category will be updated with time, but for now, I am planning to discuss four different issues that are related to Pakistan, as well, indirectly. Following are the four different issues:

I reiterate the fact that many other external issues will be added in the latter course of time. Let me put a spotlight on the third category.

Category 3: Internal Issues
If you are social, and you discuss the incidents and things happening around you other than who’s in love with whom and who’s looking beautiful or ugly, you would be able to maneuver yourself towards goal fairly easily. Anyway, I shall discuss the following topics before amending this category by adding more topics to it.

Alright, there are four different internal issues that need our attention.

Firstly, “National security strategy.” If you are new to current affairs, then your first wild guess might be: “Oh! You are talking about anti-terrorism strategies.” Obviously, it does include anti-terrorism strategies, but it is just 5% of the “National security strategy.” In a broader sense, “National security strategy” has four sub-categories, viz. Health security, National security, Economic security, and Environmental security. So now, you can imagine what are the different aspects we are going to cover in the very topic. For example, poverty, inflation, basic human rights, conditions of hospitals, terrorism, sectarianism, GDP, Siachen issue, water issues(between Pakistan and India), and many more, and their counter measures.

Secondly, “Balochistan Issue.” Those who do not know about the things happening in Balochistan would find out in upcoming posts why it is included in the core-internal issues of Pakistan. I shall definitely shed some light in the concerned post, and try to elucidate it in detail.

Thirdly, “Economic problems of Pakistan.” Sigh! [For now, I can only pass “sigh!” in its defense. For sure, I shall discuss it in detail by considering that whosoever is reading my post does not know the ABC of Economics. So do not worry about the terms GDP, fiscal year etc. I shall explain them in detail in the respective post.]

Lastly, “Judicial Activism.” Yet another Sigh! [Judiciary transition from slavery to independence(somehow), and recent developments especially Suo motus, prime ministers’ cases and much more. On a side note, I must say, “Year 2013 was the year of Suo motus.”]

The very last category in “Current Affairs” is “International Organisations,” which includes the following:

Other than that, I am planning to add three more organisations to this category, but firstly, I shall highlight all the aspects of above-mentioned organisations, then I shall move on to the other ones.

In a nutshell, we are going to study Pakistan’s relations with other countries, external issues, internal issues and international organisations. Thus, whenever newspapers are read/consulted, the above mentioned topics ought to be given a special attention, and ought to be updated by considering the contemporary events.

* Right now there are FOUR categories, but I shall add more to it after covering the above topics.

Include pakistan's relation to muslim countries also(turkey, indonesia also). Recently pak-saudia relation on security concerns. A good effort, preparing under the same categories but didn't thought of graphical
view.

I made that strategy back on February 26, 2014! lol

That time I found Iran as the hot-topic!

New strategy will be absolutely different.

This is just to give the general idea how to categorise things under the main heading to get something economical out of newspapers while reading.

Regards.
