Good list so far but you must not forget to revise OIC AND SAARC, IT IS LIKELY THAT THEY WILL BE EXAMINED.

You must consult the syllabus first for current affairs before starting your preparation.

"US-Pak After 26/11"

Did you mean India-Pakistan after 26/11, if not it should also be there.

As Vicky said you need to add international organizations into the list.

After careful analysis of current affairs syllabus and past exam papers, I have concluded that I should give paramount importance to following topics:

Topics in Current Affairs:

  • Democracy in Pakistan (Cover other Muslim states as well as most Muslim countries are deprived of democracy)

  • Kashmir Issue (Cover all angles)

  • SAARC, OIC, SCO, ASEAN, ECO (You may get a stand alone question on one of the organisations, or you might be asked to compare)

  • PAK-US Relations (Mainly focus on war against terrorism)

  • Pak- Afghan Relations ( You may be asked to write about Pak-Afghan relations through the Indian perspective, questions in CSS are never straight forward)

  • US CHINA RELATIONS (Focus mostly on economic development of the two countries, and their struggle to control world resources. Do not forget to include the Pakistani perspective in your answer)

  • ASIAN ECONOMY (SUCCESS OF EAST ASIAN ECONOMIES, SOUTH ASIAN ECONOMY AND THE CHALLENGES, POTENTIAL OF DEVELOPING CENTRAL ASIA)

  • Political Structure and Political Dynasty, especially in South ASIA (INDIA, PAKISTAN AND BANGLADESH)

  • IRAQ – US WAR (History and Exit strategy)

  • Corruption and how it affects Pakistan?

  • Global Warming (Kyoto protocol etc)

  • Nuclear technology (Pros and Cons)

  • PAK – INDIA RELATIONS

  • PAK-CHINA RELATIONS

  • PAK-IRAN RELATIONS

  • PALESTINE ISSUE

  • GEO-STRATEGIC POSITION OF PAK (TRADE, DEFEENCE, FOREIGN POLICY)

  • INDIA – US Relations (Pakistani Perspective)

  • Situation in Northern Areas (Extremism etc)

It is evident that one cannot attempt to memorize all these topics, do the best you can. A good understanding will enable candidates to effectively answer questions from whatever angle you are required to give. Current Affairs questions are never general, all are very specific, therefore; it is advisable to have historical perspective on each topic.

There are many misconceptions among CSS students that DAWN newspaper is the bible for current affairs, please bear in mind that Dawn newspaper is mostly filled with petty disputes involving politicians, you have to be smart and be very selective what you read. I suggest reading articles by renowned analysts such as Dr Riffat Hussain, there is a great article by Maleeha Lodhi on Pak- US relations, google it!

Golden Tip: Watch World in Focus on PTV for current affairs, it is extremely informative from a current affairs point of view.

DISCLAIMER: I AM MERELY EXPRESSING MY OWN OPINION, YOU SHOULD CARRY OUT YOUR OWN RESEARCH BEFORE STARTING PREPARATION FOR CSS, DO NOT SOLELY RELY ON OTHER PEOPLE FOR GUIDANCE

The list given by vicky786 as well as the suggestions for prep is a good one. about the Dawn newspaper, no doubt it should not be one's sole source of news or knowledge. the sources should be varying from international independent (relatively) newspapers like the guardian, the new york times, khaleej times, the times, the newsweek, wikipedia, RAND corporation, and of course writers like noam chomsky or friedman or krugman.......but mainly it is ur common sense and ability to inter-connect various pieces of information into a coherent and informed knowledge base......

@ Sajid Sadeem

No doubt that you are right about Dawn newspaper, it is a good source but one cannot blindly rely on it like some candidates do. I know students who spend over three hours reading and absorbing every story in that paper, people have this major misconception that dawn is the ultimate source for CSS prep, and whatever is published in Dawn will definitely come up in current affairs.

It is a good idea to read as much as you can, all writers mentioned have produced some excellent work, especially Noam Chomsky,

You mentioned reading different newspapers, searching and finding relevant articles is always laborious and time consuming, any strategy to make the process more efficient for some who only has 3 months left to prepare for the exams? Advice will be appreciated!

Thanks,
