Default how should i start preparing for current affairs?

can any one please come up with a smart way to tackle lengthy and insurmountable toics of current affairs?

plz also explain the methodology of preperation: for example if i am preperaing a certain issue ,should i delve into its history also or the current update would be enuff?
also i would be grate ful if some one could give me a hard rule for preparing a topic i.e historical background
current situation
conclusion

is that right?
please put forth your contributions.

not that much lengthy.
There is no hard and fast rule of answering a current affair topic but i prefer Wikipedia's format in answering most of the current affair topics. And in certain questions you have to mould your answer according to the requirement.
