When we yawn at someone's speech or act, we are actually tending to stop him from doing that by showing our lack of interest. We simply are not irritated enough to shout but we are symbolizing that we are not inclined to see that move or are getting sick of the environment. Physiologically, lack of oxygen is the cause of yawning and lack of oxygen is a sign of inactivity, sluggishness and indolent sympathetic system clearly suggesting that we want to flee from the present situation.
'Houses are built in to live in' means we must make use of things for the purpose they are manufactured. It's another meaning may be that it's the "purpose" of thing which mark it's importance and not it's appearance or any aesthetic quality of that particular thing.
