ASSLAM O ALIKUM,
I am student of FS.c II

confusion!

just solve these following sentences I'll get myself out of confusion.........

I know only a thing that if folk of a certain area is being under discussion " "people" will be singular"

example: YE WO LOG HIAN JIN KA KUTTA MERI BILLI KA PEECHA KRTA HE

(1) it is there are the people whose dog chases my cat,,,,,,(ye sentence mre aik English native friend ne bola tha,,,,agr "people wahid he to are nai ana chahiye tha, agr plurar he to shuru main " it is " nai ana chahiye tha)
(2) here is the people whose dog ,,,,,,,,,,,(i sow this sentence in a mcq'a paper)
(3) there are the people their dog ,,,,,,("are" bi lgaya gya or their bi)

some more ,,,,,,,,,,,,,

(4) 4 people of a same family were killed in road accident (news paper main prha tha ,,, agr wo log aik hi family ke the to aik hi area or kbeele ke honga to ,, "were" nai " was " ana chahiye tha)
(5) it is that people about whose / those / them / whom ... we talked about earlier
(6) WO YE HIAN...
it is them ?.. or they are them ?.... or these are them ?,

when such question comes in any MCQ's question paper it isn't mantioned if whether poeple of same area or round glob are being discussed

people are plural
According to Oxford dictionary peoples can be used but it is defunct now. It means this cannot be used in formal English now. So, don't get confused always use people

Well, I am sure I will be of some help Indeed the above replies are helpful, but I would like to add up a bit into this.

Source: Cambridge Advanced Learners Dictionary.

A. People (Noun) : people /ˈpiː.pl ̩/ plural noun

1. men, women and children

Examples:

Many people never take any exercise.
We've invited thirty people to our party.

2. used to refer to persons in general or everyone, or informally to the group of people that you are speaking to

Examples:

People will think you've gone mad.
People like to be made to feel important.
Now that we've discussed our problems, are people happy with the decisions taken?

3. men and women who are involved in a particular type of work

Examples:

We'll have to get the people from the tax office to look at these accounts.
Most of her friends are media people.

4. the people

the large number of ordinary men and women who do not have positions of power in society

Examples:

She claims to be the voice of the people.
The President has lost the support of the people.
The people's Princess

5. sb's people : informal

the people someone is related to

Example:

Her people come from Scotland originally.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

B. people /ˈpiː.pl ̩/ noun [ C + sing/pl verb ]

1. all the men, women and children who live in a particular country

Example:

The French are known as a food-loving people.

2. a society

Example:

Customs similar to this one are found among many peoples of the world.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

C. people /pi.pl ̩/ verb

people sth/somewhere by/with sb phrasal verb

If something or somewhere is peopled by/with a particular type of person, it is filled with them

Example

Her novels are peopled with the rich and beautiful.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope much is streamlined. Its quite confusing, but a little attention to this will suffice.

@Call for Change: Thanks, but I use peoples in my writings, let it be essay or other writings. Its not informal and can still be used. Your opinion must be based on evidence, I'm sure, so no offence.

Regards
