Post Tricks to Crame Grammer Rules Permanentily

1. Common Errors
* S pelling
* P unctuation
* C apitalization
* P ronouns
* V erbs
* S entence Fragments
* R un-on Sentences
* D angling/Misplaced Modifiers
* P arallel Structure
2. Spelling
* Be aware of your “enemies”
o Words you often misspell
* Homonyms
o Words sound the same (they’re, their, there)
* Usage
o Words often confused (accept, except)
3. Capitalization
* Titles—all words 4+ letters long
* First word in complete sentence
* Proper nouns
* School Subjects
o Names of languages—French, English
o Numbered courses--Biology I, History 211
4. Pronouns
* Pronoun Agreement
o Agree with antecedent (noun referring to)
+ Number—singular, plural
+ Gender—masculine, feminine
+ Case—subject, object, possessive Pronoun Shifts (case)
o Do not shift between person
+ 1st, 2nd, 3rd person
YOU
5. Verb Forms
* Subject-Verb Agreement
o Here, there, it at the beginning of sentence not subj.
o Subj. will never be in a prepositional phrase
o Watch out for indefinite pronouns
o Turn questions around = subj + verb + obj.
* Verb Tense—indicates time of action
o Keep tenses consistent
6. Sentence Fragments
* Missing one or more elements of an Independent Clause (IC).
o Subject
o Verb
o Complete Thought
* Corrections:
o Add the element(s)
o Attach the fragment to the IC before or after it.
7. Run-On Sentences
* Two or more IC joined together
o usually with only a comma—comma splice
* Corrections:
o Use a period to separate the two sentences.
o Add ,conj
o Use a semi-colon—esp. if they’re closely related.
o Rewrite the sentence completely.
8. Dangling/Misplaced Modifiers
* Modifiers—adjectives & adverbs
o May be single words or phrases
o Must be placed as close to word being described as possible
9. Parallel Structure
* Items joined by a conjunction must be expressed in the same grammatical form.
o Word, word, and word
+ reading, dancing, and cooking
o Phrase, phrase, or phrase
+ over the hill, under the bridge, and into the cave
+ either move to Kansas or move to Texas

Perhaps the best method will be to pay attention to what you write. Digest your thoughts first and then pen them down:

For-example: there are two spelling mistakes in your title. It's cram and not crame and permanently was never supposed to be spelled permanentily...
