Kindly tell me this sentence is correct or not????
If there had been an effective disaster management authority, the damages would have been far lessened.

Brothers, I am not sure but I feel that here there is no need to use "if". Instead I would go for this sentence as:
Had there been an effective disaster management authority, the damages would have far been reduced/lessened. Seniors please comment. |

I think conditional sentence either staring with had or if is correct.

Reduced and lessened compared to what? So the correct way of saying that is by replacing "would" with "could" or by replacing "reduced/lessened" with "far less".
