Can we use headings?
I have two questions. Please help me out:
1. Can we use headings in essays. And if we can, then is there a problem in using too many headings? 2. I attempted "Nuclear Weapons for Peace" in CSS-2006. My question is, should I have concentrated solely on the "for peace" idea,or, as I did, could I have also written something against it? What I wrote was something like half in support and half against it, because if I had not written the "against" part, my essay would have been very short. |

Dear u may use headings in ordinary queries but headings r nt allowed in essay paper. thats a forthright answer to ur query. Well u needed to attempt it ambiguously. U could take the start with historical review of nuclear weapons and their threats throughout the history. In the mid, u needed to elucidate the story of the use of weapons and their double impacts on the world. But when u were running towards the end, u needed to elucidate its good impacts with hight hopes for future. Go with the tone of the essay. Always learn to get the picture behind the title u are working on. You should know what the examiner is asking for. All the best Regards

Comprehensive and analytical writing means to cover all possible aspects of the topic along with your own analysis supported by references and authentic data. and that is the requirement of the essay paper. So one should cover all the aspects of the topic, including the statements in favour and against the topic, with historical background, evolution, present stage, future aspects etc. Regards,

No doubt nuclear weapons act as deterrence yet these are a permanent threat to the world.

Dear u r right but he was supposed to write on the positive aspects that is why one should not explore its negative impacts in this sort of essay to that high extent. Well it is just for the sake of justification of the topic. Regards

It is not necessary to justify a topic. You may contradict it logically. And in this particular case the topic was"Nuclear weapons are not only a threat but a hope too".Now firstly discuss its merits then demerits and we may conclude it that although we take them as hope yet they are threat .

Further Confused.........
Guys, with all due respect, your replies have confused me further. Can anybody provide a definitive answer as to what approach one should adopt in this kind of topic? Can we contradict the topic given to us? As far as my understanding goes, "nuclear weapons as a threat" is self-explanatory, the examiner wants us to concentrate on the "nuclear weapons as a hope" part.

Well don't be perplexed. The issue is confusing that is why u felt so. u just need to explore the facts. At times u get a contoversial topic, tis' better to avoid it if nothing else is possible.
Regards

Agreed @I M Possible Chanda, it's not the solution, to avoid it, we've to figure out the way. @nhaider Yes, you can contradict to the topic as well, but only when you've sufficient back up of references, logical and emperical evidences etc. And in order to attempt any this sort of essay, go to introduction first, then history, merits, demerits, comparison of merits and demerits, and then conclusion. Regards,
