The index of civilization is measured by the status of women in the society
-Introduction:
A nation becomes civilized if its women are not considered as second human beings. Why women are considered as second human beings? Fragility Traditional role Child bearer Emotional thinker Dependent since ages Religious perspective( misinterpretation) Insecurity of patriarchal society Why Pakistan is lagging behind? patriarchal society Equality is a myth Women as sex symbol Social stigmas: o Widows o Divorcee o Working women o Racism Double standards of society o Primary deviances o Judgemental o Passing the buck on women Dowry culture Crime against women o Honour killing o Acid throwing o Harassment o Karo kari o Vani o Marriage with Quran o Rapes o Trade of women Political participation Politicians’ derogatory comments Under employment Emotional blackmailing Cases o Shirin Ubaid o Malala yousafzai o Benazir No fully implementation of womens protection bills Changing pattern but stagnant thinking Remedies: Role of media in changing mentality Political participation Economic participation Implementation of protection bills Strong judiciary Positive role of religious scholar Conclusion: Human beings are the superior creature of God, and women cannot be excluded from this category. Nevertheless, traditional thinkers particularly of patriarchal society give them the status of second being. Those orthodox minds remain adamant on their stance. Unfortunately, the proponents of this mentality are myriad of number that their opinion matters. Owing to this a woman has been striving for her rights since ages. No matter how many rights she is bestowed with, these rights are not being recognized, if recognized to some extent, they are being snatched. This picture shows an uncivilized society. Where women are not treated well. Contrary to this, there is a civilized Nation, who is being called civilized for some reasons, and the foremost one is, it does not indulge in the Labyrinth of first or second being. It believes in equal treatment. It does not try to play with the natural process. Civilized Nation knows that progress is not possible if the big ratio of population would remain mentally disturbed. |
