two things are mentioned here...just war...unjust peace. now the emphasize should be on these two words.but lets define what is just war and what is unjust peace. superficially it might look very easy to define it but basically it is a specific theory propounded many years ago by the Romans. according to them just war theory is a doctrine of military ethics of Roman philosophical and catholic origin, studied by moral theologians, ethicists and international policy makers, which holds that a conflict can and ought to meet the criteria of philosophical, religious,or political justice, provided it follows certain conditions. there are some conditions laid by christian catholic church regarding this just war. they listed four main strict conditions for legitimate defense by military force. the damage inflicted by the aggressor on the nation or community must be lasting, grave and certain. all other means of putting an end to it must have been shown to be impractical and ineffective. there must be serious prospects of success. the use of arms must not produce evil and disorders graver than the evil to be eliminated.the power of modern means of destruction weighs very heavily in evaluating this condition. now what is unjust peace... where people are denied rights or when a foreign country occupies your country.under this condition they silence us by the power of their guns but in fact it is the silence of oppression when you are oppressed so much tormented so much frightened so much that you lose the power to fight for your rights.this is called unjust peace when you are living a life of slaves or every now or then other nations deem it fit to oppress you.there are many examples as it is going on in Kashmir,Bosnia,Chechniya. if you want peace you must prepare for war. people who chose security over liberty will receive neither nor deserve either. a person once said...give me liberty or give me death.. temporary peace and unjust peace is useless.it stands on shacky grounds and can be razed to ground with just one stroke then what's the point in defending it so much. John F Keneddy said that If we make peaceful revolution impossible,we make violent revolution inevitable.... off all the tyrannies a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive now if we look at the meaning of whole sentence it goes as... fighting b/w countries for a fair and and good cause is better than no fighting in a situation that is not fair. out line will be here in a short while.plz wait.. |

just war is better than unjust peace..
Introduction
what is just war what is unjust peace when war is called just ? just cause comparative justice legitimate authority right intention probability of success last resort proportionality in war how combatants (attacking side) should act. principles of distinction principles of proportionality principle of minimum force ending of war just cause for termination right intention public declaration. discrimination dont isolate the surrendering side. advantages of just war militarily politically socially economically psychological examples where war was justified american war of independence (it gained them liberty after long spell of slavery) the second world war (the allied forces had just reasons to wage war ) persian gulf war korean war in 1950 afghan jihad against soviet union irish war of independence (irish were right in their freedom struggle ) american attack on japan ( japan had crossed the pearl harbor bridge and america had to defend it self ) british assault on germany (germany after occupying french was eying brittain) pak wars against india. disadvantages of unjust peace politically socially economically psychologically countries going through unjust peace kashmir afghanistan palestine chechniya iraq bosnia Islamic concept regarding just war Conclusion..a just war is in the long run far better for a man's soul than the most prosperous peace. dont know whether its good or bad..need comments as well..seniors plz help. |

skip the combatant Headline. Regarding just war there are many fought by muslims in early period. especially the battle of Badar. Just war is one which is fought not for personal glorification but for some worthy cause... . All other are unjust

Here goes mine:
Introduction:
Definition of war Definition of just war and unjust peace Body: Concept of Jus ad bellum When it is justifiable to go for war Concept of Jus in bella Conduct of war Presence of a legitimate authority to wage war Ultimate goal of just war is to re-establish peace Right intention Just cause Redress a wrong suffered Comparitive justice Liklehood of success Last resort Proportionality between voilence used weapons used Discrimination between combatants and non combatants Moral Problems Historical examples American civil war Wars of indepences fought by asian and african nations against Europeans in the 19th and 20th centuries. Present world nations suffering from unjust peace Kashmir Palestine Chechnya Afghanistan etc etc Conclusion: Its better to wage war against the cruelity rather than suffering in the long run to save the coming nations. @ Gul
Though I am not that good on essay but in my opinion its a fine attempt but change that heading "how combatants should act" but don't change its contents. And one more thing I don't think that the example of "persian gulf war" settles in. Rest is a very gud attempt. Regards,

but why not Persian Gulf War example..It was waged by U.N authorized coalition forces. From thirty four nations even Saudi Arabia,Egypt had forces in it...and Saudi Arabia was the greatest financier.. Is it because it was lead by USA and UK..but i think they had the justification for that..Iraq had occupied Kuwait..and there was no legitimacy in that act. What do you think about it..was it an unjust war ?...I think it was a just war. usman.....plz do comment on it. |
