Causes of Pakistan Backwardness.

Pakistan became an independent state in 1947. Broadly speaking, the people of Pakistan rendered colossal sacrifices for its independence. Pitifully, Quaid’s vision of Pakistan to see it as a great power , never fulfilled. Political rivalaries, incompetency on the part of political leadership, corruption, illiteracy, military intervention, extremism and now terrorism never let Pakistan to prosper. Conversely, several other states particularly china and Indonesia,which got their independence after Pakistan, have witnessed progress tremendously. It is really astonishing that a country which is rich in natural resources, having gigantic manpower and pivotal geo-strategic importance could not progressed in a manner as was expected. Poverty rate in Pakistan is very high. According to one estimate, 1/3rd of the population is living below the poverty line. Besides Poverty, widespread unemployment has broken the backbone of the poor. Similarly, corruption has permeated in the nook and corner of the country and has posed serious challenges to its very survival. Country’s progress ratio is still very slow. However, all this does not mean that there is no way out. Realistically speaking,It would require hurculean efforts to pull the country out from the shackles of backwardness . To say, Government should rise to the occasion and deal the problem with iron hand. Firstly, Corruption should be rooted out. Secondly,equal opportunities of employment should be given to all. In addition to this, free education should form priority of the government. Last but not least, people should participate in welfare activities and shed the feelings of intolerance and extremism. No doubt, by taking such steps our country will be set out on the right track.
