Outline
Introduction: • Def • A brief history Is gender equality a myth or fact? (I argued that it’s a myth) • Gender inequality in west • Gender bias in South Asia • Gender discrimination in Pakistan (Only 2% women employment in formal sector, report by HRCO) Causes of gender inequality: • Religious misinterpretation • Social taboos • Lack of socialization about gender equality • Psychological barriers • Lack of serious political will and efforts by governments Impacts of gender inequality • Economic deterioration due to lack of collective labor (95 million of Pakistan’s population is of women which makes a total of 51%, report by world economic forum) • Social impacts • Bad image in the world Recommendations for encouraging gender equality • Proper understanding of religion • Socialization of gender equality through the institutions of family and education • Governments should seriously take steps to ensure gender equality Conclusion Through the ages two different sexes of the same specie have been busy taking edge over one another which resulted some times in a patriarchal system or a matriarchal system and again into a patriarchal system. After the industrial revolution the technological advancement along with so many other things produced glorious advancement in education which altered human thinking and behavior to a great deal. This intellectual renaissance compelled many a man and woman to strive for gender equality. Though the west claims to achieve gender equality to a great deal but the evidence of harassment and exploitation of women in every walk of life has made it vivid and crystal clear that the dream of a society free of gender bias or inequality has not yet been materialized. Though the developing countries are trying much harder yet the day to day reports of discrimination against the women speaks volumes about the exploitation of weaker sex. Analyzing the facts available it can easily be concluded that the gender equality is yet a myth. |
