Default Free Speech Should have limitations

Saalaam Dear fellows,

Please evaluate my outlines. This is exactly how I went about this essay in 2013.

Free Speech should have limitations

“Mind your speech a little lest you should mar your fortunes”
(Shakespeare)

 Introduction:

 Brief History of Freedom of Speech in West and America:

Persecuted Protestants migrated from Europe to America and found a place where they could practice their religion freely.

 Premeditated Provocation:
1. Danish Caricatures
2. Geerat Wilder, a Dutch parliamentarian, made a documentary on Islam portraying it as a violent religion.
3. Terry Jones, an American Jewish, tried to burn Quran on 10th anniversary of 9/11
4. Recent sacrilegious film “ innocence of Muslim”

 Consequences of such provocation:

1. Incite violence
2. Gives an impetus to the concept of clash of civilization
3. Hardliners tend to exploit such opportunities to further their ulterior motives
4. It has widened gulf between west and Islam.

 Some Western Intellectuals too have advocated limitations on free speech:
1. John Stuart Mill argues in “On Liberty” that the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community against his will is to prevent harm to others.
2. John B Finch highlighted the limits of one’s freedom of actions by asserting that:

“My right to swing my fist ends where your nose begins”

3. In his book “The Harm of Hate Speech” Jeffery Waldron argues that die hard First Amendment supporters should rethink their approach if freedom of expression is abused to take away other’s right to security.

 Critical Analysis:
In critical analysis I highlighted the double standard of West like anti Semitic laws andDanish Penal Code. According to Danish Penal Code however is found guilty of spreading hatred is viable for punishment but the person who drew sketches of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was never apprehended. I also pointed out that how West has failed to realize that their unbridled free speech is creating more problems than it has solved.

 Suggestions/ Recommendations:
Free speech should be qualified with some laws in order to create harmony among the different cultures.

 Conclusion:

I comprehended it in religious context while attempting the paper and highlighted every negative thing which this uncontrolled free speech has brought. Keeping in view my above outlines and arguments in support of limitation on free speech do you think I will pass this paper??

Since I am participating in a debate because I thought it will give me added advantage for CSS prep.

The topic is: "Night is darkest before dawn"

My preliminary mind map:

1) reference to (The English theologian and historian Thomas Fuller appears to be the first person to commit the notion that 'the darkest hour is just before the dawn' )

2) for the young audience who don't get it I will further allude to :district attorney if Gotham city: Harvey dent quotes:Harvey Dent: The night is darkest just before the dawn. And I promise you, the dawn is coming.

3) reference to current politicians as 'jokers'

4)Pakistan as 'Gotham city'

5) finally Imran Khan as much awaited saviour and the arrival of dawn

6) conclude by telling the students that this is not the place to get bogged down(due to depressed job market and other hitherto factors) and hold on for a while because dawn is not far away ie Imran khan

Please seniors tell me ASAP about potential amendments and new ideas to include.!

I think the you should pass. Although u have ignored other areas such as media, individuality, free speech and it exercises in Pakistan and Islam. But still the knowledge you have apprehended is fair enough to get u through the green line.
