Post Difference between:

Differentiate between hard water/ heavy water/soft water:
hard water

if the water produces curds with soapand affect the cleaning action of soap,it is known as hard water.water usually rainy water dissolves CO2 and converts the CaCO3 and MgCO3 into their respective bicarbonates, when flowing throught the rocky bedsmaking it soluble.the calcium and magnesium ions plus their chlorides and sulphates when dissolved in water, makes the water hard.
heavy water
the normal water formula is H2O.however, the water is called as the heavy water when it is the compound of the oxygen with the haevier isotope of hydrogen,i.e deuterium of mass 2amu.the formula, therfore,is D2O.its physical properties are slightly different from normal water while its chemical properties are similar.
soft water:
the water that easily produces lather with soap is called soft water.the soft water does not contain any bicarbonates, chlorides and sulphates of calcium and magnesium.which makes the water hard.

differentiate betweem gypsum and plaster of paris
gypsum
gypsum is basically calcium sulphateCaSO2.2H2O.it is found in enormous deposits underground.it is largely responsible for permanent hardness in water, though slightly soluble.it is used in making cement and manufacturing Ammonium sulphate.
Plaster of Paris:
when gypsum is heated,it loses water forming hemihydrat (CaSO4)2.H2O.this hemihydrat is known as plaster of paris.when it is ground to fine powder and mixed with water,it set hard forming gypsum again.it is used in setting limbs and casts of various kinds.

differentiate between commensalism and mutualism:
Commensalism:

it is the intimate association between the two organismswhere one organism calles"commensal" is benifited from the other called"Host".while the host is neither benifited nor harmed.
example:Nyctotherus in cockroach is a commensal gets food from host but is not harmed or benifited in anyway.
Mutualism:
in this type of association, both the associated organisms are benifted from each other.such type of association is also called as Symbiosis.
example:trichonympha is the microbe found in the gut of the termite,it helps the termite in the digestion of the wood, and in turn gets food and shelter
lichen is the symbiotic association between algae and funji.
