For Pre-partition period - Events and personalities = Trek to Pakistan or Struggle for Pakistan .

For Post-partition period = Hassan Askari's book .

you can use Ikram Rabbani's book as a text book .

You would have to do some of the topics before independence of 1857 from any relevant book as i have got Two Nation theory and its perspectives and Journey to Freedom for this portion . Its upto you . Best of Luck .

Plus you can use Muhammad Ali chaudhry's book Emergence of Pakistan for the time of Partition i.e Problems faced by Refugees and problems of partition etc .

Donot know actually . Compare it with Ikram Rabbani's and then you can decide easily . It is a view that Imtiaz Shahid collects all relevant material from other sources and compile them into a book . So having this view in mind , may be you can go with it . But check it once .
