well there is a simple explanation for that::: Generally many people think that Essay does not require any practice... that is not true...To put my second observation on the floor let us analyse the essays for last year

The following were the essay asked to be written:::

TIME ALLOWED: THREE HOURS MAXIMUM MARKS:100




1. The Future of Democracy in Pakistan.

2. Health is not a condition of matter, but of mind.

3. co.education , Merits and Demerits

4. The food crisis: problems , challenges and opportunitities for Pakistan.

5. English as the Medium of Education in Pakistan.

6. The future of UNO, Hopes and Hurdles

7. There is no great genious without a mixture of madness.

8. Status of Women in Islam

9. Pakistan's War on terror and its impact on our psyche and politic.socio.economic fronts.

10. Power of Media in the Modern World.

It's beyond any shadow of doubt, that most would have attempted the essay on terrorism or democracy.

The fact of the matter is that an essay either needs to be informative, imaginative, or analytic or so on....and all of them would follow a different format for the same essay title...

The problem over here what i have experienced my self is that...most of us, pakistani students that is, consider a good essay which tires out the person who is reading it (i mean we want it lengthy like hell). which uses difficult language. long sentences etc etc.

we do not make a distinction between the types of essays.

for example if i take the terrorism subject and decide to put it in the analytic format. i need to explore all the points. make an analysis of it. given the pros n cons of what the government is doing...also we need to give some space or raise points from the terrorists side as well.. i mean it should be a comprehensive stuff...what most of us will do is that we will give it an attractive start. and then present it as mixture of informative and analytic types...

well this is my observation

P.S last year when i started the formal "tayyari" for css i used to write essays and have them check by our professor for english. a nice fellow he was, after going through several of my works...he gave me some suggestions

1) Thoughts should not break...the paragraphs following each other should be connected.
2) No cuttings.
3) Present the stand that you are going to take right in the beginning...for example if you were writing on women rights then you should mention the general perspective as well as your stand on it, so that the checker knows what he should expect down the page. this is something that i used to ignore
4) he suggested that i make my essay interesting::: what he meant by interesting was that if you get bored while writing the essay, rest assured the checker would get bored too...he used to say that your words would speak for you...the more energetic you are, the words are going to show that... (although i need to work on that hehe

What about trend in Applied Maths? I have not seen a single person in the failed candidates who opted for app maths as far as i have chkd, if anyone knows the please do tell. Had anyone qualified with applied maths or not ?

yes sir i have...try in the first 200 candidates...i came across one...ba unfortunately that guy did not take css seriously i guess...cuz he had failed in just about everything else as well

Political Science didn't fare well this year...I checked over 100 roll numbers and the average was somewhere in the range of 70-80(out of 200).
