yes, one can always go for selective study. The formula is easy. Scroll through last 10 years papers and you will know which questions are important and which area's in particular are more important than the others.Make a list and start preparing. I'll give you an example. If you go through last 10 years papers of Political Science you'll notice that questions regarding Plato have appeared 8 times. So 8/10, i think it's a safe bet to prepare Plato .

Disclaimer:
Selective study is always risky, sometimes it pays off and some times it lands you in trouble and trouble is the last thing one wants in a competitive exam .

I won't recommend the overrated Judd Harmon's book. Go for question-answer format books because they are always more useful and easy to understand.

If you are planning to appear in 2010 exams then following are very important:

1. Plato
2. Aristotle (not that important)
3. Hobbes
4. Lock
5. Rousseau
7. Machiavelli
6. Marx

Muslim political thought

1. Farabi
2. Iqbal

Don't read too much about them. Like Mr. MMM said, go through past papers and highlight the topics relevant to the above philosophers. Best luck.

regards,
floydian

I have seen this book Exam Cram for Political science, and seriously i do not think it is up to the mark. It provides you enough to write in the exam and pass but in order to get a good score you'll have to blend it with some other material as well. Secondly i think that the material is the book can only be comprehended easily by those who already have some knowledge of what they are reading, for the one's who are new to Political philosophy it is sometimes confusing.

Regards
