Default Why The Arabs Failed To Penetrate Deeper Into India

1. Khalifa was never interested into the conquest of India.Hijjaj took permission from Walid to punish Dahir. The permission was given but reluctanly. It was this unwillingness of all the later Khalifas that they did not send sufficient military to help the further advance of Arabs in Sindh.

2. Sindh was not profitable to the Khalifas economically, thus they refrained from further conquest in Sindh.

3. In 750 A.D., the Abbasid Khalifa replaced the Ummayads which lowered the prestige of Khalifa itself. It also led the conflicts among Arab officers in Sindh that weakened thier position.

4. The Arabs Khalifas were fond of art and literature and expansionism was not their policy so they remained contented with Sindh.

5. The Arabs become luxurious, lazy and weak from the time of Khalifa Haroon-ur-Rasheed.According to H.G Wells “Islam was separated from its novel and life giving resources.” and ” the religious zeal and simplicity of Quran was replaced by rigid philosophy.

6. Taking advantage of the weaknesses of Khalifas, the Arabs become independent in 871 A.D. It also led to thier division into two kingdom of Muslims in the North and the Kingdom of Mansura in the South.

7. The new rising tide of pan-Islamism particularly among the Persians and the Truks led to the division of Islam and weaking the power. Therefore, lust was aggressive force and strength at least temporarily in India.

8. Arabs entered India by Sindh. That was not the right way to enter India. Sindh was a poor country and it could not give the Arabs the necessary resources with which the rest of India could be conquered.According to L.P Sharma “No power could hope to conquer India by forming Sindh as base of power”.

9. The lack of permanent power in India added to the difficulties of the Arabs.Instead of single rule, there were also many rulers in India to be conquered and that was particularly an impossible task.

10. Sindh was situated at much distance from the center so it was very difficult for the Khalifa to pay due attention to this area.

Infact, Sindh was an important empire of the Muslims.Due to its distance from center and its meager financial resources, it received little attention.

According to lanpool, “At the first expedition under the ill fated Muhammad bin Qasim, we hear of no reinforcement.
