Iltutmish as the real founder:

--Sudden Death of Aibak.
--Police State/Martialed state of affairs.
--Dissenssions amongst the local populace.
--Conspiracies by the nobles.
--Strong pretenders to the throne in the form of Qubachah and Yilduz.

What makes him the real founder:
--Organized the state, gave it its nascent form.
--organized the finances, gave its currency and economic measures
--Organized Chilghani (corps of the Forty) to control the Nobles.
--Punitive actions against the Rajputs, nobles like Yildoz and Qubachah.
--initiated land reforms, like the mansabdari system.
--gave the Muslim state in India its first capital Delhi.

etcetc
