Smile In need of guidance for Islamic History and Culture

Hello all senior members,
I've had no prior experience of CSS exams and am a novice aspirant for CSS exams. Now I'm confused with the course-oriented books of "Islamic History and Culture". However, I've already bought the following books for Islamic History and Culture:
  1. Short History of the Saracens by Ameer Ali, Syed
  2. History of the Arabs by Philip K. Hitti

I've tried to explore these two books but I don't know whether they are sufficient or rather relevant to the aforementioned subject. If so, then which chapters are to be selected from each book (particularly from Short History of the Saracens). Besides, I'm unable to match the syllabus contents from 'Short History of the Saracens' with either Islamic History 1 or Islamic History 2. I'd really appreciate your cooperation in this regard and please guide me toward the right path. Thank you and Allah Hafiz

philip k hitti book is the best and most authentic. start reading from the begining and underline imp. facts. reading a hisory book from middle is asinine as you miss the chronological sequence. also get A SHORT HISTORY OF ISLAM BY MAZHAR-UL-HAQ. these 2 books are the best combination for the paper. BEST OF LUCK

mazhar ul haq book A SHORT HISTORY OF ISLAM is best but it does not cover the ummayd period of spain and the ottoman empire. so also consult philip k hitti book.

Rabia you are right a short history of islam by MAzhar-ul-haq is the best book for islamic history part-1 and for part -2 i would suggest that a short history of muslim spain is very helpful to cover part-2

"History of arabs" is not a sufficient n relevent text it z bit controversial as well in certain matter eg expansion of arabs n some other. Mazhur ul haq z better becoz it is an indigenized text.

Lightbulb Best Books and Material for Islamic History

1. "A study of islamic History" by Professor K.Ali (old Edition)
This book is succinct and to the point. It covers all topics except Ottoman Part.
2. A Short History of Islam by Mazhar ul Haq and Muslim Spain as well.
3. P.k Hitti (use quotations from it)

Prepare ur own notes with brevity and convincing expression and frequenlty practice prepared questions. Practice past ten year papers as well.
For Mcq's one should study almost past 10 year papers.

yes you are right dear but one must concentrate on selective topics according to past papers.

A short history of islam, and muslim in spain. by mazhar ul haq, these both are good books for I.history further for reference you must by History of arab by P.K.Hitti. best of luck

Nice dear, as far as i think one should employ this formula or technique when he has less time to cover the whole syllabus. Presently, as it is August, 5 to 6 months are remaining so the first object should be to cover the whole syllabus or at least go through any authentic book like Mazar ul Haq's book. Beside, If u don't follow the topics in sequence then it becomes very much difficult to comprehend and grasp the subject. So i suggest that at least once go through a book and then cover the previous 10 to 15 years question papers. Exam Cram series by Jahangir also helps in this compass. Thx
