The Fatimid anti-caliphate of Africa
Origin of Fatimid, nothing is more obscure and controversial in the history of Islam than the origin of Fatimids. They claim themselves to be the direct descendants os Ali and Fatima. According to them Ubaydullah Al-Mahdi, the founder of Fatimids dynasty was the great-great-grandson of Ismael, the son of Jafar as-sadaq, the six imam of the house of Ali and Fatima. Rise of Fatimids Ubaydullah Al-Mahdi destroyed the kingdom of Aghlabids in 909 A.D. Ubaydullah built a new capital near Qayrowan in 916 a.d. which was called Al-Madhya after him.Under al-Muaz, the fatimids conquered Egypt and founded new capital near Fustat, which he called Al-Qahir or Cario. Under Muazz ,empire extended from Arbia, Syria to North Africa. Seljuk, Turks destroyed their empire.
